Vaginal Vault Prolapse

Vaginal vault prolapsed is a situation that develops when the uppermost region of the vagina loses the shape that is considered to be normal and then it sags into the canal of the vagina. In some cases, the top region of the vagina may collapse into the external section of the vagina.

In some cases, this form of prolapsed happens on its own. In other cases, there could be an accompanying prolapse such as that of the bladder, the rectum, the bowl, and even the urethra. This condition is typically caused by a weakness that happens in the pelvic tissues.

However, it could be a result of a weakness that happens in the tissues of the vagina and the tissues of the muscles. In most cases of vaginal vault prolapse, the situation may occur as a result of having the uterus surgical removed in a procedure called a hysterectomy. 

Common Symptoms of Vaginal Vault Prolapse 

There are several common symptoms of vaginal vault prolapse. If you experience this issue, you may experience heaviness in the pelvic region of the body. Many women that experience this issue suffer from moderate to severe backaches that are troublesome. If the vaginal vault prolapse develops into a mass that is relatively large, it could result in complications directly related to standing comfortably and even walking comfortably.

Many women also experience urinary incontinence. This means that the urine that is typically stored in the bladder is released in an involuntary manner. It is also common for women to experience abnormal vaginal bleeding if they suffer from this particular medical condition. 

Vaginal Vault Prolapse Surgery 

Women that suffer from vault prolapse associated with the vagina may elect to have a surgery performed that will correct the condition. This procedure involves attaching the lower section of the wall of the vagina to the top section and reducing the amount of excess tissue.

The doctor that performs this medical procedure typically performs it by going through the actual vagina, but there are some instances which the doctor will make a very small incision in the abdomen of the sufferer and then perform the operation through that incision. If the tissue that makes up the vaginal walls is in good condition, the doctor will use it to perform the surgery. If the tissue is not in good condition, the medical professional will use tissue that has been artificially created.
