There are many different risk factors associated with teen AIDS. Today's youth carry an extremely high risk of contracting AIDS through the means of the initial virus, which is called HIV. The teenagers that are considered to be part of a minority group and various types of ethnicities are at an even higher risk.
As adults, it is important that we work to encourage prevention among today's teenagers. We can do this successfully by outreach and basic educational programs on the topic. We should also work to encourage abstinence from any and all forms of sexual activity among teens.
Seeing that over 50% of all high school students are sexually involved with at least one partner, it appears that we need to focus on sexual education well before a child becomes a teenager.
Amazingly, based on research conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the year of 2004, as many as 7.4% of all the teens tested admitted to engaging in sexual activity prior to the age of thirteen!
Naturally, any type of sexual activity is a risk factor when it comes to teen AIDS. In addition to this, those that engage in illegal drug activity that involves the use of needles from one person to another is another risk factor.
When it comes to risk factors for teen AIDS, it has been found that those that come from broken homes, live in poverty, and are not in school are more likely to indulge in sexual activity, substance abuse, and other high risk types of behaviors.
As adults, not only should we work to educate teens before they are teenagers on the complications associated with sexual intercourse and sex related activities, but we must also educate those teenagers on the issues of substance abuse.
Then, we need to consider what types of programs that we may implement for those that come from broken, low income homes. It is then that we make a real difference in the amount of teen AIDS cases in the world.
