In today's fast-paced world of struggling work, extracurricular activities, social functions, family, relationships, and other aspects of day to day life, more and more individuals are starting to place their focus on achieving what is referred to as life balance.

Many individuals who place their focus on life balance are under the impression that there is a secret formula, or an evenly distributed equilibrium that defines work as well as aspects of the personal life.
Life balance is not about designating certain time frames to certain tasks within your life. Life balance is a process that adjusts to your life, changes that occur within your life, and action that changes as your perspective changes, as you grow from your experiences and as you progress in your growth on a professional level, a personal level, and in your life as a whole.

The First Step
The first step to defining your personal life balance is to take a step back from all aspects of your life and look at each component in an objective manner. We each have our own perception of what balance is overall.
For many of us, we may want to focus more on our family. For others, it may be focusing more on the career. Many may elect to focus on their personal fitness. Your perception of what life should be will assist you in determining an appropriate course of action as it relates to your unique life balance.
In order to define what a balanced life is, you must first determine what you find to be important. Immediately thereafter, you must then determine the steps that need to be taken to achieve and personally experience those things that you determine to hold high importance.
The Five P's
In order to appropriately achieve life balance, you must determine what it is that feels "right" to you. Despite common belief, there is no other person that can define what is right for you as an individual.
You must reflect on your life on a personal level and evaluate the aspects that you find to be positive and the aspects that you find to be troubling. You must consider that which you find to be meaningful. When it comes to life balance, many choose to follow a concept that is known as the "Five Ps". These include the following:
- Purpose
- Passion
- Power
- Principles
- Perspective
Purpose
If you want to achieve life balance, it is important to know how to consider each of these "Ps". These components work together to truly identify who we are as individuals. The first is identified as "Purpose".
It is important to know and understand that each of us have a unique purpose in this life. In many cases, this purpose is easily identified. In some instances, it takes a little time to discover what our purpose is. When you identify a purpose, it becomes easy to identify the steps that you have to take in order to fulfill and live that purpose.
Passion
The next aspect to discovering life balance is "Passion". What are you passionate about? What things interest you in life? Do you enjoy helping others? Do you value teaching others how to perform professionally? Do you have a passion for sports or other activities? Your passion will drive you to success.
If you enjoy meeting people and socially interacting with others, yet you are stuck in an office all day with little social interaction, chances are that you will not achieve your personal life balance. Use your passion to help drive the directions and paths that you walk in life. If you do so, you will be more successful and happier.
Power
The next "P" in achieving life balance is "Power". This is nothing more than your individual strengths. You may possess the ability to communicate well verbally or by written word, you may have a knack for operating and repairing electronic equipment, you may be a problem solver or possess a natural empathy towards others and their needs.
Regardless of what your particular "Power" is in life, it is essential to use it in setting the pace for your personal life balance. If you attempt to indulge in powers/strengths that you do not have, your personal balance in life will be greatly affected.
Principles
When working on achieving balance in your life, it is imperative to consider the next "P", which is "Principles". What is it that you value in life? What is important to you as an individual? Do you take great pride in developing your relationships? Perhaps you value your religious beliefs.
You may value honesty, integrity, and dedication. You may value your friends, your family members, or even your community as a whole. It is essential to consider all of the aspects of your life that you value.
Once these principles are identified, you should live according to them. Allowing others to sway you on values, or by not living according to what you believe, you are hindering your personal life balance in a detrimental manner.
Perspective
The last "P" when it comes to personal life balance is identified as "Perspective". This encompasses all of that which we personally believe as an individual. How do you perceive others? How do you perceive the world? How do you perceive life in general? It is often quoted, "Perception is reality".
This is actually quite true. That which we perceive is our own reality. If we believe that life is challenging, it will become challenging.
If we believe that life is a learning experience, we will continually learn new lessons through life. If we believe that we are unhappy, we will, in fact, become unhappy. If your perspective is negative, it will affect your life balance.
By taking each of these "Ps" into consideration and adjusting them in a manner that is positive for each of us as individuals, we will achieve the life balance that is appropriate for us.
