Home Remedies For Allergies

Herbs Used In Home Remedies For Allergies

By Anne Ahira

Many allergy suffers choose to use home remedies that can reduce the symptoms or reduce the chances of having an allergy attack. The primary benefit of these remedies is they eliminate the side effects which some of the over -the- counter medications may cause. However, home remedies should never be used as treatment for a severe allergy attack as these can be life threatening and emergency medical treatment is required.

Astragalus, Tumeric, Thyme and Licorice

Astragalus is an Asian plant with its medicinal properties being found in the root of the plant. Astragalus is thought to strengthen the immune system and help with the reduction of allergy attacks as well as alleviate symptoms of an allergy attack such as hives.

Tumeric which is found in its natural form in South Asia is said to help with easing inflammation caused by an allergic reaction when it is mixed with milk. Making a tea with licorice and thyme is said to reduce the mucus which is produced in the nasal passages during an allergy attack.

Other Natural Remedies for Allergies

Extra garlic when mixed in many foods can provide relief from a variety of allergy symptoms, and cloves of garlic mixed in butter is said to help relieve allergy symptoms very quickly. Individuals who have taken a mixture of honey and limejuice on a regular basis have claimed that this prevents allergic reactions from occurring as well as castor oil when mixed with water or fruit juice.

A vitamin E supplement taken on a daily basis may also help prevent an allergy attack.  Ginger is another natural substance which is thought to relieve many symptoms of allergies as well as the common cold.  If you suffer from mild allergy attacks, you may want to try some of these home remedies before purchasing any of the over the counter medications.
