Getting Treatment or Crisis Assistance for someone with a Serious Addiction to Alcohol

Alcohol abuse or dependency can have very devastating effects not only to the addict but also to those closest around them who love and care for them. One of the most difficult problems when it comes to the progressive disease known as alcoholism is that more often than not the alcoholic is in denial and therefore unable to see this as a serious problem and refuses to seek help for their addiction.

There are several ways in which you can attempt to help the addict in getting treatment for their addiction however; in some cases it may be necessary receive help through crisis assistance.

The first step you will want to take is educating yourself about the disease of alcoholism and how it affects an individual's physical health and also the emotional toll it takes on the addict and all those who surround them.

You can best do this through your local clinic or by contacting a support group such as "Al-Anon" which is an organization for the loved ones of people with an addiction problem to help them in dealing with all of the issues that they themselves face when there is an addict in their family.

Try talking to the alcoholic and express your concerns about not only what this addiction is doing to themselves but also to the others around them. In some cases of serious alcohol addiction when attempts by the individual people in their lives have failed in getting them to receive treatment, you can seek crisis assistance through the many programs that are available through state and local agencies including national hotlines which can assist you in dealing with this issue.

You can also seek help through a crisis intervention professional who can assist you in setting up a family intervention which has been quite successful with many individuals with serious alcohol and drug addictions.
